COMPETITION NOTICE:

Create a logo for the YOUNG SMART CITIES project

PREMISES

The Young Smart Cities project announces a graphic competition aimed at creating a logo (with or without an associated pictogram) in order to leave room for the creativity of the students involved.

OBJECTIVES

The logo must identify the project and accompany it in all its activities, ensuring recognisability and visibility, while still trying to allow maximum versatility of use. The primary use will be on the website youngsmartcities.com but the logo will still be used in all the characterizations and expressions of the project such as presentations, digital and paper documentation, and possible promotion of the project in on/offline media.

WORKS

  1. The logo can be figurative or the result of a combination of alphabetic symbols (logo) and figures (pictogram) and must include the name YOUNG SMART CITIES;
  2. The possible pictogram must be simple and immediately understandable;
  3. The logo must be able to be enlarged or reduced without losing its communicative strength;
  4. The presentation file must be in digital format, possibly in .PDF and similar;
  5. The work must be accompanied by a brief report illustrating the reasons that led to the creation of the design.

TECHNICAL DESIGN REQUIREMENTS AND AESTHETIC CONSTRAINTS

In order to achieve these OBJECTIVES, an extended version (horizontal) and a contracted version (square or more vertical) are required, plus an “icon” version (Initials YSC? Pictogram?), in colour but also in positive and negative.

The logo colour space must be based on the following references or on a fusion between them (additional colours are however allowed):

  • GREEN | RGB 115/160/50 | CMYK 68-13-100-0
  • BLACK | RGB 0/0/0 | CMYK  0-0-0-100
  • GREY | RGB 200/200/200 | CMYK 0-0-0-30

In addition to the project presentation document, a .PNG version with transparent background and a width of at least 1080 pixels is required for all instances presented (logo versions and icon). Plus a file that can be accessed with the various versions in vector format (type Adobe Illustrator or similar) must be included.

PARTICIPATION

The competition is reserved for the classes in the various schools involved in the project; the working methods within the class group are at the discretion of the teachers who will accompany the class in carrying out the preparation for the competition, guaranteeing the exclusive development of the idea and its production by the students. Each class group may submit only one proposal.

ADMISSION CRITERIA

Only original and unpublished logos that represent an artistic or graphic-artistic stylization of the name of the project plus a possible pictogram are admitted to the competition.

DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION OF WORKS

The logos, accompanied by a slide showing the authors’ data and the reasons for choosing the design, must be sent by Friday, December 13.

EVALUATION OF WORKS

The proposals will be evaluated by an Examination Commission composed of at least one teacher from each school and a panel of experts involved in the YSC project. All works must meet the following criteria:

  • Originality of the logo and any pictogram;
  • Relevance to the principles and activities of the project;
  • Clarity in the indications of use of the various forms;
  • Feasibility and reproducibility of the logo also in relation to the executive files provided and to the specifications on the provision of executive files in the “Technical Project Requests and Aesthetic Constraints” section.

The decision of the Judging Committee is binding and unquestionable.

INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY OF THE WINNING LOGO

The winning logo will officially become the project logo: it will be shown on all official documents and will be included in the new project website. The winning logo will be the property of the Young Smart Cities project, which acquires all rights to use, reproduce and publish it. The project reserves the right to adapt the winning logo to improve its technical usability during printing and/or online publication.

Logos not selected as the winner will remain at the disposal of the project, which may use them to characterize disciplinary areas or particular activities.
