We are secondary school students from Omiš, Croatia, and we took part in the Young Smart Cities programme to explore how our town could become greener, healthier, and more sustainable. We interviewed local citizens, took photographs of areas that could be improved, and identified environmental challenges such as traffic, limited green spaces, and summer heat.

Using AI tools, we transformed our ideas into visual proposals and generated innovative solutions, including green rooftops, eco-friendly parking areas, urban green corridors, and vertical gardens. We compared the current appearance of different locations with AI-generated visions of a greener future and discussed the environmental and social benefits of each solution.

As a final project, we created a wall calendar featuring “before and after” images of Omiš. Each month presents a local location alongside a sustainable redesign and explains how the proposed changes could improve wellbeing, biodiversity, and quality of life. We proudly presented the calendar to our mayor as a collection of students’ ideas for a greener Omiš and a reminder that young people can actively contribute to shaping the future of their community.
